Benefits of Wheel Alignment

Those of us here in California know all too well how bad some streets can really be. After a winter season of running into all those potholes, cracks and other hazards, your Jeep will need a little bit of TLC (and probably some maintenance as well).

Many car owners often overlook the necessity of a wheel alignment. This is not a service that is required as often as an oil change but there are reasons why it is necessary. Here is what you need to know:

1. Better handling. Did you know that poor alignment can make it more difficult to handle or steer your Jeep, thus increasing the chance of an accident? Your safety should always come first, so make sure your wheels are properly aligned at all times.

2. Make your tires last. A wheel alignment will make sure your tires are wearing evenly so they last as long as possible. If you have never had your wheels aligned, don't be surprised if your tires wear out prematurely.

Tip: if you notice that your tires are not wearing evenly or the car pulls to one side, it may be time for a wheel alignment.

3. Gas mileage. Often times overlooked is the fact that a wheel alignment can improve gas mileage. Even if your alignment is off by a tiny bit, it can take a toll on your gas mileage, costing you more at the pump.

Vibrations in your wheels differ from alignment problems. Vibrations are generally caused by wheels being out of balance or bent (potholes can also do that) or because suspension parts are worn, and getting your wheels aligned won't solve this problem.

These are just a few of the many benefits associated with a wheel alignment. If you can't remember the last time you had this service completed, it may be time to contact your mechanic.
